Sunitha Bisan Gunasegaran is the founder and managing editor of Majalah PENITA.
Sunitha has a legal background and practiced as a lawyer for 8 years before opting to focus entirely on the sustainability movement and integrating gender. Sunitha is also very active in the sustainability movement serving as the President of Sustainable Development Network (SUSDEN) and the Vice Chair for the Malaysian Environmental NGOs platform (MENGO). She also supports women’s causes by serving as NCWO’s Law and Human Rights Commission Secretary. Her focus on integrating gender has seen her serving and contributing towards the UNDP-Institute Integrity Malaysia Programme (2006) on facilitating community participation particularly integrating gender. She also helped develop the project document for the Civil Society Sub-Component for Biodiversity, Gender and Indigenous People with the Danish Development Agency (DANIDA) under the bilateral environmental programme between Malaysia and Denmark which will be implemented from 2007-2009. These are apart from the community mobilizing efforts she undertakes with PENITA.
