Women are excellent in planning...but when executing it, they fail. They can't really manage well because they kinda mix job and emotion...

To all moms who work from home...having a gadget that has a memo or task manager program will help. If you already have a bb or I phone, that is more than having a pen and paper. Use any gadget you have to the maximum.

i'm back! Well, not really,..I'm always here,..just that this year has been an incredible busy year and no time to post, but just read some new postings only.

As for the online personal management system, I have some doubts. An online system will be just a 'nice' thing to have, but may not be 100% practical here. Just imagine, a personal management system supposed to keep track of all your time (business and leisure etc), which mean that an effective system must be able to enable you to key in any new event immediately in the calendar, or maybe put a 'to-do' list.

How many of us are online 100% 24 hours? If this is a computer / web-based, how can I immediately log in a new event in my calendar (let say during a meeting with client offsite) or maybe you are at your friend's house, and she just invited you for dinner next Friday. How can you know if you are free immediately (without the PC or internet connections?). I may have forgotten the events later, and by the time I have connections to the internet, I will not be able to key in the event.... icon_rolleyes.gif

I carry a PDA (previously a Palm, then a Pocket PC and now an iPhone) - which I think is a better time management machine than an online-based time management...

If you are not into e-time management, I think a paper-based pen and paper is better than the online version....

just my 2 cents,.

Roziana ,

I agree with what you say, many a times, work take longer because there is more time available.

I've always marveled at what can be accomplished if I'm going off on a vacation tomorrow vs normal days when I've plenty of time. icon_biggrin.gif

I'm pretty sure others might experience similar situation.

Keeping a journal is a very good way of managing your "time". I put the work "time" is parantheses since the issue is more of managing your tasks than time. All of us mortals are blessed with the same amount of time in a day - 24 hours. It is how we allocate our tasks to fit into this 24 hours that makes a difference. icon_smile.gif

Someone wrote about being disciplined - and I agree. Whatever methods of managing our tasks will remain as that if we ourselves are not disciplined to keep to these methods. icon_lol.gif

Before we could place in order of importance the tasks we have ahead, what I would suggest to those who may have some difficulties in managing their tasks is to write down everything that you do in a day. Yup, keep a journal. And yes, every day. By doing this, you have some written evidence or record of how you utilise your time everyday. Do not dispair - do this for about a week at least, to note trends. Some may want to keep doing this for a month or more.

From here, you will get a clearer picture whether what you have been doing were beneficial or not. You can also detect time wasters that may have distracted you from completing your tasks - and yet you end up complaining there is "NOT ENOUGH TIME" to do them. icon_surprised.gif

If keeping a manual journal is tedious, use technology to your advantage. Writing as someone say, is a dying art that is going the way of the dinosaurs! What is important is to have them "written down". icon_cool.gif

However, for this to work, you have to remember almost every single activity you did and record these. Including the 4T breaks (toilet/tobacco, telephone, tea & touch-up). From here, you will be able to plan your future activities and cut down on the wasters. icon_lol.gif

Good luck! icon_wink.gif
