I have a daughter who is now in Std 4. She is learning her maths and science in Eng all this time. Based on the time table given by the Edu Dept, SPM will revert to fully in Malay after 2015. My daughter will be in Frm 4 then, which means that after studying in Eng all the way , she will need to revert to BM in her Frm4 &5. Pls reconsider this , the impact on these students is very great.

I would like to make an appeal to the education dept to allow schools to choose the language they want to use. Continue the exams in bilingual questions, let students make the decision themselves. This is the fairest way to go.

I strongly against the decision to go back to BM for both Maths & Science subjects. Only the rich can afford to send their children to International School / overseas, we ordinary people are struggling to make ends meet. Why should our children be punished just because we can't afford to send them to an "English school"???

I am curious also actually how many of our ministers' children are studying in our local government schools / local universities????

By reverting the teaching of Maths and Science to BM, I think the government is retarding the progress of this country.

Since we have come so far and we are presently teaching the subjects in english why not just continue in English. If there are problems , address the problems and find solutions to it instead of creating another problem which I feel which is going to be costly for our future generation. Find out how to solve the problem of teaching the subjects in english. I feel it it not easy to just revert to BM. Instead of creating problem solve it.
Moreover, to resort to the switch is going to create a confused group. Our kids are the one who are going to suffer. how are we going to become a developed country where we cannot stick to the decision. For everybody's sake stick to English.

It is sad that our children are guinea pigs for these changing education policies. The urban children prefer English but the rural children prefer Bahasa Malaysia. Why don't the the Kebangsaan school teach both English and Bahasa Malaysia for Science and Math?

What is sadder is nowadays Bahasa Malaysia are tainted by direct translation of English. For example, executive is translated to eksekutif instead of pengurus or pegawai. What happen to our pure Bahasa Malaysia?

Even if we revert to teaching of Science and Math in Bahasa Malaysia, the phrases will still be a direct translation from English, and may not help the children much in terms of improvement in Bahasa Malaysia. This will in turn confuse them more as the spelling in English and Bahasa Malaysia would be almost the same.

What's the point....

My kids much prefer to learn science and maths in English. They are able to learn more through the vast amount of information available in the internet , magazines and reference books , all of which is in English. Have you ever tried looking for science articles in BM? Doesn't exist!!

This is a most recognised universal language bridging economies and development around the globe and yet the powers that be in this country fails to take into utmost consideration the future impact of its citizens command of the language! What do they care when scripts are politically crafted for them to read from??? (of which the standard is nothing comparable to even a neighbouring country). One wonders if they are even comprehensible of its contents when addressing the floor. How many times has the fool been made a bigger fool when one announced decision is again 'reversed' at political whims and fancy??? If this country is supposedly democratically-led, then why is the majority's wish being ignored?
As a Malaysian citizen, my primary language is English and yet I am well-conversant in both BM and my Chinese dialect. I am proud that I am tri-lingual and that has served me well throughout my educational and working life both domestically and internationally. Bear in mind that not everyone has the ability to learn many languages, however, given a situation to make the best of only one choice it is only most sensible to be a master of the mass. How is it that one can be so consumed by the notion of a language lost when the language is of the new world and usage has stayed only within its shores??? Time for contemplation again? I doubt it!!!

Sad to note that the Government has decided to scrap the two and revert back to the old Bahasa Malaysia. After spending million and billions of people hard earned money tax, they simply drain it to longkang just to please certain quarters and definetly to jaga the UNDI for the Coming VOTES.... icon_sad.gif

Hi, I am a single mother of three and I fully agree and support that Science and Maths should be taught in English. My kids are already in this for the past few years and by 2012, they will be taking their PMR and SPM respectively.....the switch is definitely going to pull their grades down as trying to understand the formulas and etc in another different language within a short span of time is going to coz more harm than good.
Thank you.

Lily

I'm strongly support that this 2 subject should be teach in English, our children will be easy to understand and have a wide resources in this 2 subject. As we know , after they go to university or college mostly the medium is English and world wide recognize. Even went they come to work also English is the main medium of communication compare with other language. This is for our children future it is not for the sake of the old generations to be convenient or happy teaching..... icon_sad.gif

I was very disappointed that the govt will reverse the decision to teach Maths & Science in English as I believe this is really going backwards -- its succumbing to the political situation. English is a medium that is used in many countries, so if we want our children to succeed when they grow up into adulthood, its easier if they are also good in English. This reversal in policy affects more the people in rural areas as those who are more affluent will find some means of ensuring that their children are exposed to what is relevant for them. for example, how many Ministers ACTUALLY send their children to kebangsaan schools? I will dare to say almost 98% of them send to International schools. So does this reversal in policy affect their children? Obviously NOT. So they are OK to make whatever decisions especially since it will benefit their own children as their own children will be at the advantage side. So its the rural folks again who would eventually suffer as they cannot compete in the new globalised economy. As my friend says, it may be then a case of Malaysians sending people over to Indonesia to work as maids -- WHY? Cause they cannot go anywhere else tow rok since they don't know the language. only in indonesia would they be able to survive then. How's that for thoughts? icon_rolleyes.gif

icon_sad.gif i was very sad to hear that the govern cancel the teaching maths n science in english. the were worried that malay tengah lenyap but DR.M did not canceled the subject bm only Math n Science were taught in english. as a teacher ifeel malay students were good in english nowadays rather than those days. there were a teacher told me that students could not copup with their lesso. but there only see the result base on the paper the pupils do but most of them could do maths easily if we learn in any language thats not a problem. not all subject are in English. actually our new govern should understand the concept of 1 malaysia. as a malaysian we should learn many languages. bukan martabat yang perlu dipegang kuat tetapi perkembangan masa depan tanpa mengabaikan BM. I didn't say BM should not be taugh but is good if math n science is in English. its only suggestion but i still will follow our govern decision. they are the boss and they know whats right n whats wrong

Of course I prefer my son to learn Maths and Science in English.
I am active here but the governemtn has made the final decison.
We have chinese schools and tamils schools
I am wondering why we do not have Englsih schools for those who prefer to learn Science and Maths in English
The government should not be rigid when it comes to learning Maths and Science in English.

I personally feel that the Government should stick to English in these 2 subjects. As a former Science student back when everything was in Malay, I had a tough time studying in Malay. I would use English text books to study for my exams and translate everything into BM during exams.

With the current standard in English, many students would benefit from studying these subjects in English. They would be forced to improve their English in order to excel in these subjects. They would be better off knowing the English Science and Maths terms in English as many institutes of higher learning conduct their courses in English. Plus, if they plan to study overseas, these students will find it easier to cope academically or socially with a good command in English. I know many people who studied during my time had a hard time catching up with their college/ uni work as they were conducted in English. Some even had to go for extra English courses.

The Government should not keep changing their policies whenever there is a change in administration. They should work on improving the standard of education instead.

Folks, we would really like you to take this Poll and tell us what you feel about the Government's latest decision to reverse the teaching of Science and Maths back to BM. Most of us have an opinion on this and for the sake of our kids, we simply have to voice it out - being passive does not help!
